Residency Interview Hosting FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions:
HOST Program

If you have any further questions, please contact MBSAA staff at or call (888) 303-0030.

When does the program run?

Alumni hosts are needed from October to January of each year.

How many nights might a student stay in my home?

Typically students request one night of lodging. Some requests may be for two to three nights.

Will the student have their own transportation?

It depends on the student. When you complete the sign up form you can indicate if you are willing and/or available to provide transportation to/from the airport and/or the interview location.

What if I don’t have an extra bedroom but am still interested in volunteering?

No problem! Many of our alumni still host a student by offering a couch or an air mattress to sleep on. Alumni may also offer to pay for a student to stay at a nearby hotel.

What if I’m not interested in hosting a student in my home or sponsoring them to stay at a hotel, but would like to be involved?

We would love for you to still be involved! A great opportunity is to take a student out to coffee, lunch, or dinner during their visit to your city. Another idea is to give them a tour of the medical center, office, etc. where you work. Please contact MBSAA staff at or call (888) 303-0030 if you are interested.

How will I find out who the student is that is staying with me?

MBSAA staff will send an introductory email to you and the student to share each person’s contact information. The student is then responsible for contacting you directly to share their travel plans.

How to I sign up to become a host?

Complete this short form. A member of the MBSAA staff will contact you.

I know someone else who is interested in hosting a student.

That’s great! If they are a medical alumnus from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine you can encourage them to sign up.
